In this section we would like to share some of the theory and working principles of helium measurement and how this affects leak measurement using the method. The tutorial is broken down into easily digestible parts where you can read about one aspect of helium leak measurement and you can use the menu to the right to navigate between the sections. You can also download the entire course in more detail in PDF format on the last page here.
Below you can find the first part – 1. Measuring using helium.
All elements helium, carbon, silicon and molecules (multiple element substances, such as water, oil, and alcohol) consist of protons (+), neutrons (neutral) and electrons (-)
With helium being the most important for leak detection applications, we will focus on this gas and explain how the ionization process takes place.
Atoms of helium consist of the following:
• 2 electrons
• 2 protons
• 2 neutrons
The sections we will deal with here are in defining helium more closely, the components involved in testing, flows and various methods of leak testing.
